Restore Life to Jackson
A 3-year capital campaign to build the Gateway New Life Center on Gallatin Street.
The Campaign Kickoff

Restore Life to Jackson kickoff gala · March 2025 · Jackson’s 2 Museums
In March of 2025, Gateway Rescue Mission hosted a fundraising gala at Jackson’s 2 Museums to kick off our Restore Life to Jackson capital campaign.
Darryl Strawberry — MLB all-star, World Series champion, and a man whose own story testifies to the power of recovery — was our guest speaker. It was a wonderful night of fellowship, celebrating the future of the Gateway ministry and the work God is calling us to in Jackson.
That night was the first step of a 3-year journey to renovate a 24,000 sq. ft. warehouse on Gallatin Street into a dedicated home for our New Life addiction-recovery program.

The Vision: A New Life Center
A 24,000 sq. ft. building dedicated exclusively to addiction recovery, doubling our capacity from 20 men to 36.

Our current New Life Program residents are housed in the same shelter as our overnight clients. Having their own dedicated space and environment is imperative for the recovery process. The renovated New Life Center will give every program participant the room, structure, and community they need to heal.
What the New Life Center will include
- Dorms for 36 men in our addiction-recovery program
- A new, larger chapel — large enough to host community events as well as our guests
- 6 new offices and a conference room
- Two new classrooms
- 10 to 12 efficiency apartments for transitional living after graduation
- New parking lots and upgrades to current facilities
- Additional staff — counselors and case workers — to support the expanded program
Two Phases of Construction
Phase One · In Progress
Upper Floor, Exterior & Parking
The early gifts from our first year allow us to begin work on the upper floor of the warehouse, the building’s exterior, and a brand-new parking lot. This is the most integral part of the campaign — the foundation on which everything else stands.
Phase Two · Next
Lower Floor · Transitional Living
The second phase renovates the lower floor into a transitional living area — 10 to 12 efficiency apartments for graduates of the New Life Program. This gives men a stable environment as they take their first steps back into life outside of Gateway.

A Letter from Our Executive Director
Dear Friends,
Twenty-five years ago, God called me to minister to the homeless and addicted at Gateway Rescue Mission. Many of you have walked with us through prayer and support — and you are part of a special group that faces a crossroads here in Jackson.
We can cut and run, leaving Jackson at the mercy of all the wrong forces. Or we can make a stand and carve out a new future for our Capital City. At Gateway Rescue Mission, we are committed to making a stand. We invite you to join us on this journey to Restore Life to Jackson.
David came to us in the throes of alcoholism. He sobered up and ultimately became part of our programmatic staff. David passed away suddenly one night after driving some of our program residents to a revival service. He came to us broken, but he left this world a changed man. We want to see many more lives changed.
This is the first and only capital campaign in Gateway’s history, and it will sustain our ministry for years to come. We have been so blessed with such gracious support in the early stages. In the coming months we will host additional, smaller fundraising events for new prospective partners and meet one-on-one with those who want to participate.
As an extended family member of Gateway Rescue Mission, we seek your input into this project. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you for your concern and support.
— Rex Baker, Executive Director

Lives Changed for a Lifetime

This work is about more than buildings. It is about lives changed for eternity — men who walk through our doors broken and walk out new. The New Life Center is a tool. The transformation is the work of Christ.
