Jackson, MS
Since 1948, Gateway Rescue Mission has been dedicated to helping meet the physical and spiritual needs of homeless individuals in the Jackson and central Mississippi area. With the help of dedicated staff, volunteers, and donors, the organization is able to serve nearly 135,000 meals annually and house 70 people in the shelters each night.
The mission of Gateway Rescue Mission is to offer life changing hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ to homeless men, women, and children through programs to deliver food, shelter, counseling, and discipleship. The organization is able to achieve their mission through the on-site chapel located in the overnight center. However, the chapel is in need of renovations to improve the spiritual experience for clients. “This renovation will improve our lighting by replacing burned out fixtures and will also assist with a new paint job to enhance the spiritual experience in our shelter,” said Executive Director, Rex Baker.
Gateway Rescue Mission hopes to raise $3,000 through RedBasket.org to help make renovations possible for the chapel in the overnight shelter. Raising these funds would allow the organization to be able to purchase paint, new lighting fixtures, and sheetrock repair. “Gateway Rescue Mission is a frontlines organization. The meals some people get in our kitchen, or the night spent in our shelter is the high point of hope for their day,” said Rex.
